Bloating can happen to the best of us. It can dampen one’s spirits after all the hard work in exercising and maintaining a healthy diet. It can make one feel discouraged to keep up with the hard work. Bloating can even happen so often; it just feels like it would not go away at all. Like everything else, there are solutions that can be put into place to counter it.

1. Identify Trigger

Most of the time, bloating happens when excess gas builds up in the stomach or intestines. By identifying the trigger of the bloating, you’ll be able to tackle it with a proper solution. Bloating may be triggered by hormones (before and after period), diet (not enough fibre and/or too much sugar & salt) and digestive issues (food allergies, constipation, food intolerances).

2. Be More Active

Being more active can motivate your bowels to move more regularly. This will help to release excess gas and stool. If you require a fast solution, walking may relief you from the gas pressure. Consistent exercise may help reduce bloating in the long run.

3. Gradually Increase Fibre

Gradually is the key word here. Increasing fibre intake is important to prevent bloating and constipation. Increasing fibre intake too quickly may have the reverse effect – more bloating - as the body does not have enough time to react properly to all the sudden fibre intake. So please be mindful of that.

With consistent effort, bloating can be reduced. Bloating is just a way that your body is communicating with you, telling you what nutrients it is lacking and/or that your body is in desperate need to be more active. Listen to your body and it may reward you positively. 💛
