Diastasis Recti - A mothers' problem
Diastasis Recti is the partial or complete separation of the rectus abdominis, or “six-pack” muscles, which meet at the midline of your stomach.
Diastasis recti is very common during and post pregnancy. This is because the uterus stretches the muscles in the abdomen to accommodate your growing baby.
Diastasis Recti is caused by stretching of the connective collagen sheath with excessive inner-abdominal tissue. It affects mostly pregnant or postpartum women.
During pregnancy, the growing uterus expands your abdominal pressure and connective tissues, further aided by the hormones - relaxin and estrogen. As such, this results in skin laxity and overall appearance of the abdominal area.
