Hydration is Key During Pregnancy & Motherhood!
Updated: Jul 8, 2022

We cannot emphasize enough on the importance of hydration during pregnancy & post pregnancy! Even before being pregnant, humans have been advised to be adequately hydrated. You've probably heard of the phrase, "Drink 8 glasses of water a day". While the number of glasses differ per person, that phrase is a good guideline for you to follow. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, it is recommended to drink more as your body has different hydration needs.
Adequate hydration will benefit you in different ways. They include:
Reduces swelling
Increases energy
Cools you down
Decreases risk of urinary tract infections
Decreases constipation

Of course, water is the superior drink to ensure a healthy diet. Water is calorie free and does not contain sugar or caffeine, which makes it the perfect choice. Milk is another good choice as it is full of calcium! We do not recommend sugary drinks, caffeinated drinks and alcohol.

How do you know if you are adequately hydrated? It is recommended that you check the colour of your urine. Your urine does not have to be clear like water, but instead a pale yellow colour. Hydration does help detoxify your body after all. If you find yourself feeling overheated, having a headache/migraine or have dark/concentrated urine, it is a sign for you to drink up!
